'America's Got Talent' Winner: Who Won 'AGT' Season 12?

America’s Got Talent crowned its season 12 winner on Wednesday’s star-studded finale. Find out who won the $1 million prize and get all the results below!

As Gossip Cop has reported, season 12 of the NBC talent competition began airing in late May. Back as judges were producer Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel. After Nick Cannon quit the show, Tyra Banks replaced him as host. The auditions and Judge Cuts rounds were all pre-taped episodes, but the reality show went live starting with the quarterfinals round in August. At that stage, 36 acts were left in contention.

By the time the semifinals began earlier this month, 21 acts were still vying to win, and the judges added a wild card to the mix, too, bringing back an eliminated act to make it 22 in all. But only 10 could complete in the finals, which took place on Tuesday night. This year’s 10 finalists featured an unusually high number of singers. Among them were Angelica Hale, Kechi, Chase Goehring, Mandy Harvey and Evie Clair. And, arguably, singing ventriloquist Darci Lynn Farmer could be lumped into that category, too. Those six acts faced off against acrobatic dance group Diavolo, comedian Preacher Lawson, light-up dance group Light Balance and dog trainer Sara with her pooch Hero.

The judges gave multiple standing ovations over the course of the two-hour broadcast, but all four panelists predicted Farmer would win the $1 million. Still, Cowell said deaf singer Harvey “deserved” to win, and also noted that 10-year-old singer Hale was “in it win it.” He also predicted that Lawson will be signed onto a movie or television show within “eight weeks,” and the panelists also said they’d want to see Diavolo and Light Balance have their own shows. Of course, it was up to the viewers, though, not the judges, to decide who would be named this year’s big winner, scoring not just the money but also a two-night headlining show in Las Vegas. And the show tallied 52 million votes, the most in its history.

To deliver the highly-anticipated results, Banks started by revealing the Top 5: Harvey, Sara and Hero, Light Balance, Farmer and Hale. Consequently, for receiving the lowest amount of votes and ranking somewhere between sixth and 10th, Goehring, Clair, Diavolo, Lawson and Kechi were all out of the running. Then it was time to announce who finished in fifth place and so on. Sara and Hero took fifth, while Harvey landed in fourth. Placing third was Light Balance.

That left it down to Hale and Farmer. And FARMER WON! Farmer is now the third ventriloquist to win “America’s Got Talent,” following Paul Zerdin (season 10, 2015) and Terry Fator (season 2, 2007). She and Fator actually performed together earlier in the finale. And, notably, the teen was Mel B’s Golden Buzzer. As seen on the season premiere, the judge sent the 12-year-old straight to the quarterfinals. She continued to be a frontrunner from then on. And Farmer now takes the title as the reigning winner of “AGT” from singer Grace VanderWaal. Watch video of the winning announcement above!
