Kevin Jonas revealed an alarming cancer diagnosis in a postoperative video shared to Instagram on Tuesday (June 11). The Jonas Brothers standout recently underwent surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma from his head, and documented much of the process on social media in an effort to warn others to "get their moles checked."
Basal cell carcinoma is defined by the Mayo Clinic as cancer that "begins in the basal cells — a type of cell within the skin that produces new skin cells as old ones die off" that "appears as a slightly transparent bump on the skin, though it can take other forms." These spots are often found on "areas of the skin that are exposed to the sun, such as your head and neck."
"Yes that is an actual little skin cancer guy that has started to grow, and now I have to get surgery to remove it," Jonas zoomed in on a red spot near his hairline.
The video cuts to a moment following the star's surgery where he pulls off a bandage to unveil a gruesome scar that literally makes his jaw drop. The world-renowned artist and father-of-two covers the actual scar with an emoji so that viewers do not have to revel in the details as he did.
"Alright. I'm all done. Now it's time to heal and I'm heading home...make sure to get those moles checked people," Jonas reported from inside his car.
The Jonas Brothers are currently on a break from their ongoing world tour set to resume in Mexico City in August.
