When choosing a restaurant, many diners decide to frequent well-known eateries and even popular chains for a meal they can expect to be delicious. However, some of the best restaurants are the hidden gems and locally beloved establishments that have become a staple of their community.

Cheapism searched around the country for the "best under-the-radar steakhouse" in every state, choosing to celebrate the "chef- or family-owned steak joints" with stellar ratings and reviews over the "well-known chains" and other "usual suspects."

So which underrated Missouri steakhouse stands out among the rest?

Kreis' Restaurant

This family-run St. Louis restaurant was praised for its mouthwatering cuts as well as a special sweet treat. Kreis' Restaurant, which has a 4.5 star rating and nearly 1,400 reviews, is located at 535 S. Lindbergh Boulevard.

Here's what Cheapism had to say about this hidden gem establishment:

"The restaurant has stayed true to the original owner's vision since 1948. Kreis' serves only USDA prime Midwestern corn-fed Angus beef, dry-aged four to six weeks in house. New York strips, filets, prime rib, and porterhouse steaks are served with eight steak accompaniments to choose from and 11 a la carte side dish options. Veal dishes such as Schnitzel a la Holstein are offered too. Make sure to save room for a raved-about dessert: warm apple strudel, an in-house made treat from a Kreis family recipe."
