It was a long-awaited Sex and the City reunion on Kristin Davis' podcast Are You A Charlotte? this week as she caught up with her former co-star and TV (ex) husband Kyle MacLachlan.
During the second episode of a two-part reunion that dropped Thursday (December 4), Davis and MacLachlan reflected on their TV romance and depicting the obstacles of their characters' marriage. MacLachlan joined the cast in season three as Trey MacDougal, the eventual first husband of Davis' Charlotte York. Their whirlwind relationship was wrought with sexual frustration, marital woes and an overbearing mother, ultimately leading to the couple divorcing.
MacLachlan also revealed the memorable moment in the show that he said described Charlotte and Trey's "entire relationship in one scene." The scene in question was the shocking time Charlotte walked into a bathroom to find Trey in the bathtub and his mother Bunny, played by Frances Sternhagen, sitting on the toilet and smoking.
"I immediately recognized, this is the entire relationship in one scene, in one visual. It's perfect," he said. "We're chatting like everything is totally fine, and I said, 'there's a brilliant moment.' And the other one that I loved... is when we're shopping for a bed, and it's the three of us on the bed. Again, I'm like, 'there it is.' It's the perfect visual."
In MacLachlan's first episode, which dropped Monday (December 1), he explained why his role in the groundbreaking series, seemingly a departure from his previous "oddball" characters, was "perfect" for his career.
On Are You A Charlotte?, Davis shares "untold stories and all the behind the scenes" tales from the iconic series that "helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex." Past guests include Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and many more.
