Avril Lavigne has released a new song for the first time in five years and it's a powerful one. Unlike her pop bops that we all know and love, this one is a little slower and hits hard with the feeling that was put into the song.
She shares her battle with Lyme disease in the new song “Head Above Water" and Avril explains the night that inspired the song:
“I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die. My mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’ In that moment, the song writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”
A steady, powerful ballad full of strings, piano and roaring drums shares the power and meaning she has while singing this song. Searching for hope as she goes through one of the toughest moments of her life gave us this beautiful song and she did it so well.
We love you Avril!
