Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj's 'Side To Side' Is At The Center Of A Lawsuit

Ariana Grande's "Side To Side" featuring Nicki Minaj is the center of some controversy, according to a new lawsuit, which claims that the pop smash is a blatant rip-off.

On Thursday (March 29), TMZ reported a Texas man Christopher R. O'Connor claimed that the hit is a copy of his song called "J5 (T6)." According to his side of the story, someone from UMG Recordings discovered it and had the pop pair attempt to imitate it. O'Connor even went as far as saying he reached out to UMG about the copyright violation and was instructed to send in a demo, but the company didn't make any mention of his accusation that the song was stolen. He also claimed that "J5 (T6)" was written before "Side to Side."

Still, O'Connor isn't suing Grande or Minaj. As per the lawsuit, he has aimed his target at UMG and is asking for royalties from the song as well as a songwriting credit. In case you forgot, "Side to Side" was released as the follow-up single to "Into You" off the pop star's 2016 LP, Dangerous Woman, and went on to reach the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.

Last weekend, Grande returned to the spotlight to join the March for Our Lives movement in Washington D.C. Rocking a newly platinum 'do, the pop star took to the movement to perform "Be Alright" off the same album.
