Charlize Theron on 'The Old Guard,' Her Relatable Quarantine Tip & More

Charlize Theron Zoomed with Ryan Seacrest on-air on Friday, July 10, ahead of the release of her Netflix action flick The Old Guard.

The actress joked that during quarantine, like us, she’s been pouring a glass or two.

“I find that rosé helps a lot,” Charlize joked. “Rosé definitely helps a lot. You know, we are really blessed,” she added, referring to her kids. “We live in a beautiful sunny place; we have a pool and trampoline and between the trampoline and the pool — and eating — we’ve been basically, that’s what we’ve been doing but we’ve been safe and healthy and so that’s a blessing.”

Charlize added that quarantine has made her appreciate her usual hustle.

“I feel like the majority of my life I’m like I need to slow down; I need to be home; and here we are,” she shared. “So I think the next time I get on a plane and go somewhere I’m going to be really appreciative.”

Speaking of travel, The Old Guard touches every corner of the world. The film, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka, is based on his comic book of the same name. Led by a warrior named Andy (Theron’s character), the film revolves around a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die.

“I think when you think about [immortality] fast and in a one-dimensional way, then yeah the idea of having more time is something we can all get excited about,” Charlize shared. “But when you really ponder it for a little longer, you realize — and that’s the huge theme of this movie — is understanding that it’s a very lonely road to walk this earth for thousands and thousands of years and watch people you connect with pass away.”

The flick also features breakout star KiKi Layne, who Charlize was ecstatic to work with.

“I saw her in If Beale Street Could Talk, she’s unbelievable,” Charlize concluded. “And at that time everyone was just talking about how fantastic she was … her name came up and it turns out she’s never been a sporty person which is just crazy to me,” she added. “She worked really, really hard and she’s incredible.”

Stream The Old Guard on Netflix now and watch back the full interview in the video above for more, including to hear Charlize’s take on how the film industry will resume amid the pandemic.
