Ed Sheeran Awarded $1.1 Million In Copyright Case
As I told you earlier this yearย Ed Sheeranย won a copyright case over his song โShape of You,โ where a judge ruled against two songwriters who claimed the tune was a rip-off of one of their songs. Well, now those songwriters are going to pay for their loss.ย
A British judge just ruled that Ed is to be awarded $1.1 million, which plays for 90% of his legal bill.ย
โThe starting point is to identify the winners and losers in the action because the general rule is that the unsuccessful party pays the costs of the successful partyโฆ,โ judgeย Antony Zacaroliย writes in his judgment. โThere is no dispute as to this: [Sheeran] undoubtedly won and won on every substantial point.โ
